Mac’s Warm Neutral Palette – My New Baby

Are you looking for a new eyeshadow palette that will also do some multi-tasking for you? Then you need this Mac Warm Neutral palette and you need it now. I finally purchased this myself in July after month’s of drooling over it. I was supposed to just buy it as a present for a friend but then I decided I deserved one too. It’s now my go to palette and if I ever smash this one, I will truly weep.

It consists of 15 highly pigmented eyeshadows in a clear, neat palette. It’s a great palette for anyone going on holidays or about to go travelling for a long period of time.

The eyeshadows are made up of current eyeshadows from the MAC line and some re-promoted ones that had been discontinued. The palette is €75.00 which is an absolute steal for MAC eyeshadows, that works out at €5.00 an eyeshadow. Bargain!

I kept checking over my shoulder for the security guard thinking he might stop me leaving Brown Thomas for daylight robbery! Good thing I ran out out of there at high speed, just in case there had been a mistake.

The colours are fantastic for a day or night look. The colour form each of these eyeshadows transfer really well and it’s long lasting. They are buildable too to create the perfect smokey eye, which we are all partial too!

Brule is the perfect matte base for your lid while Amber Lights and Unwind will make your eye colour pop with a metallic rock chick effect, without making you look like Courtney Love after a weekend on the sauce. For just a gentle, romantic shimmer all you need is Warm Breeze or Vanilla Extract. The Dance in the Dark colour adds depth to the smokey eye too.

These babies will also save you money as it can used as a highlighter too. Lemon Tart and Hey both double up as highlighters and can be used under the brow, in the inner corner of your eyes, the cheeks, the bridge of your nose and above your cupid’s bow. Highlight the sh*t out of those features to make them pop!!

They will give you a enduring shimmer highlight, you can use these two colours alone or mix them together for a more powerful shimmer effect that’s perfect for night-time.

The palette is really versatile and I use it daily. I did an entire party of 7 using the palette and not one of the had the same eye look. That’s how good it is, there’s so much colour to play around with and the options are endless. It beats the Urban Decay palettes hands down for me.

There’s also a cool palette too if the warm palette colours aren’t quite your cup of tea. They cool palette will perfectly compliment brown and green eyes.

HD Brows – A cult you want to join!

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock the last few years, you’ll have noticed that brows are kinda a big thing. The best type of brow you can have is a HD Brow and I am one of their biggest fans. You’ve probably noticed in the majority of my photos, my brows are in the focal point of the picture and good thing too, cause otherwise it’d be my nose!!! HD Brows, I am forever indebted to you. Mwah!

Recently, I decided to take my passion for brows a little bit further and undertook a HD Brows training course with the Beauty School. The excitement was at fever pitch as I made my booking and counted down the weeks until I started. Then, on the run up to it came the fear. What IF after all my talking about brows this and that, I was actually shite at doing them. Scarlet for me…

As I travelled to Warrenpoint to attend the HD Brows course the excitement was back and I couldn’t wait to get stuck in. I was greeted by Katie and Martina, the educators. They are both highly skilled HD Brow Elites so I knew I was in good hands. After all, I’ve a rep to protect 😉

As we started to go through the theory, I relaxed as I realised it was quite a fun approach to the learning. You were asked to look at different face shapes and comment on their currents brows and what would make it better. I loved this part, I always enjoy changing someone’s brows even when doing makeup.

Next, came the threading part. We had pretty much one on one training for any of the practical elements. It’s actually harder than it looks. Those bad-ass ladies with thread in their mouth and every other orifice make it look simple. Eventually, I got my rhythm and I was taking hair like I just don’t care.

It’s not as easy as this mad ole wan makes it look…

Next up, waxing! We practiced on arms and hands first, a good safety measure, sure who will miss their hairy arms! We were told we would have models to work on too and I was secretly praying my client would have the brows of Cara Delevingne, at least if I waxed off too much we still had something to work with. There was no need to fear though, under the careful eyes and guidance of the trainers we slowly worked our way through the procedures. And voila, I had done it. I had styled the brows and they looked pretty effin’ good. If I do say so myself…

The next models we worked on, the educators took a bit of a step back and allowed us to take the consultation and make the recommendation on the brow ourselves with regards to colour and shape. I was really happy with how both of my models had turned out. I had a knack for the tailoring too, possibly from years of borderline living in The Lash Lounge!

Day two, this was a good day, as when I entered the school, our kits were awaiting. I dived right in, zero decorum. The kit was packed full of HD Brow items, all you need to kickstart your career. The kit would easily see you through weeks of brows. I couldn’t wait to use my Foxy and Vamp palettes as they double up as eyeshadow palettes too.

The day consisted of more practice models and further theory work such as contraindications and all kinds of different brow problems. Myself and the other trainers got to do each other’s brows too, which is serious trust on my part considering I barely knew them. Good thing I’d been nice to them all or they easily could have lopped off one of my brows. I’d die, on the spot.

The trainers also let us practice on them, it was all about getting as much time working on different kinds of brows and different approaches to tailoring to tastes. You don’t have to be a beauty therapist to do this course either, as there’s a different mechanism with HD Brows to other types of waxing. I even ended up doing Stephanie in the Beauty School’s offices, I was in the zone.

The range of products that come with the HD Brows brand really make it a differentiator too. There’s so many different products to ”finish” or ”fill” the brow with that you can uniquely tailor every different brow you meet. There’s also a gorgeous makeup range to complement the Brow range.

The HD Brow training and the support system are fantastic, you can attend refresher courses or send in photos of brows you’ve worked on to get feedback. You are also promoted through their salon finder on the official website. It’s not like other courses where finish the course and that’s it, the door is closed. It’s a network of brow enthusiasts and in order to protect the brand, they want you to be the best artist you can be.

I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in brows, a makeup artist, a beauty therapist or just anyone looking to make a career change. You will love it, I am already eyeing up the HD Make Up course next.

Oh, and if you want your brows did, call me 😉

Di Milo Salon – Donnybrook

Have you been to Di Milo salon yet? Well, you need to get your ass there quick sharp bitches!

Di Milo is based in Donnybrook and is the brainchild of Jean O’Sullivan. The salon won the prestigious Image award for ‘Best Hair Salon’ and it’s easy to see why. You enter an airy, spacious and trendy salon with coffee, herbal teas, juices and friendly smiles on tap.

Di Milo

I had a Nioxin treatment applied and a blowdry by Michelle. My hair was left feeling healthy and shiny after my treatment and Michelle gave me a curly blowdry to beat all blowdries. I haven’t had a bounce with a curl in my hair like that since my mother inflicted rags on my head for my communion. She was rather evil, yes!

This was my blowdry 8 hours later.. The lady’s got skills!
Michelle is a highly trained stylist and she spoke with me about styles that could really bring my hair to it’s full potential, including a change in cut or colour. I thought this was nice as she seemed to be genuinely interested in my mane, or lack of!

Di Milo run some great special offers but what really does it for me is that they open at 7am for that quick blowdry before an important meeting, appointment or flight. Handy or what!? They also do the new Gold Fever Hair and Great Lengths, so there’s something for everyone at Di Milo.

You can check them out on Instagram or Facebook today or at www.dimilo.ie.

Inside the Travel Makeup Bag of a Tallaght Slag ;)

Ah, it’s always a conundrum for me. How the hell am I supposed to get ALL that makeup into a tiny little bag!? Oh mimmy. My must have item for any trip are my Zuca bags. They are clear pouches but you can cram lots into them. My other item is my roll out makeup brush pouch.

You can check out the Zuca bags here – http://www.zuca-europe.com/artist-collection/pouches/utility-pouch-small.html

With regards to my fold up pouch – it’s one I have had for years and it’s probably my longest lasting relationship at this stage. This hoe is loyal!!!

My original pouch is gone but here’s one I have had my eyes on from some time – it’s compact and doubles up as a storage unit while you get ready. Oh, and you can wash it too. Sold? Check it out here:  https://www.makeupforever.ie/products/bags-pouches/danys-pouch. Soon, my pretty, soon!

My pouch fits into my Zuca bag perfectly and this in turn fits perfectly into my bagpack. I look like one sexy Dora the Explorer.

Dora Bagpack

I often get asked the best products to bring for holidays/city breaks. A few years ago, I would have been the last person to ask as I used to bring my entire makeup kit! Forever fearful I might want something mid-holiday that I’ve left behind – God forbid! I was only short of putting my full length mirror in the case.

I’ve now downsized and I’ve become cut-throat; my foundations, they weep! Here’s what got the call up for my recent trips:

1. Foundations:

I always bring a day foundation and a night time one, especially if it’s a City break, although sometimes you go out during the day, and you end up ”out, out” so one could do you! Here’s some of my favourites:

1. MAC Studio Scuplt in NC30

2. Vichy Teint Ideal Foundations in Fluid and Cream – greedy bitch, I know!

3. My Face and Body foundations usually get a look in for a summer holiday too.

2. Eyeshadows

I used to pack almost every eyeshadow palette I possessed previously, I now de-pan my favourite ones and put them into two MAC quad palettes now. My other new baby is the Melt Cosmetics Dark Matter stack is formulated to give you a smokey effect with a difference. No standard grey smokeyness here people! These eyeshadows are my new favourites, the colours are really different and I find the pigment excellent too. They come in a perfect cylinder stack and it has a mirror too, meaning you’re saving space too. They are available online and it works out at abut €45.00 but it’s worth it.

3. Concealers

I try to go for a lighter concealer for holidays, mainly one with light reflecting particles. My Vichy illuminating concealer made the cut here. When going on a sun holiday, I always bring a green concealer to cancel out any redness from sun exposure. Without fail, my snout always gets burnt. Shock!!

1. Teint Ideal Illuminating Concealer – perfect for brightening up your complexion.

2. Make Up Forever Concealer Palette – this comes with multiple colours, including on orange that’s perfect for bruising! (Please say it’s not just me that comes home crawling on all fours on holidays!!)

Makeup Forev

4. Brushes

Ooooh my babies… I luff you all. This one always takes a lot of deliberation but the following brushes will always get a look in, no matter what the holiday. Try to bring as many multi-tasking products as possible and usually when I am on holidays I wear less makeup. A tan takes you from a five to a solid eight instantly, yes?!

5. After Flight Care

Vichy Eau Thermale spray will replenish your tired dehydrated skin on the flight over and back. It can be your toner and will also help with those effects from alcohol overload! But maybe not the jaundice 😉 At €10, you can’t not buy this, it’s available in all good pharmacies.

6. BB Cream

I won’t lie to you, I was never really ”into” BB creams, I just didn’t see the draw. I’m all about the coverage baby. But I decided to experiment a little and I found the Soltan BB Cream from Boots to be very good for a lovely day time look that offers protections. Perfect for a day where you want to go ”makeup free” without looking like Morticia Adams. This one has an SPF of 50 too for as little as €4.00. Niiice. You also won’t end up like this:

Shades Burn

My final saving grace would be my HD Brows and mink lashes, I’d rather stay at home if I didn’t have these. My go to place is The Lash Lounge in Dundrum.

Yours in makeup,

The Girl Pout Town

Strobing – It’s nothing new!!!

If you are a social media whore like myself, you’ve probably noticed a bit of buzz around the word ”Strobing”? What the fook is strobing though? It kind of sounds like something you might do while on E. Well, apparently, it’s the new contouring darling. Except, it’s not really new. I’ve been strobing for years… I didn’t even know I was so on-trend. Sad face.

The good news is, it’s a lot easier and takes less time than contouring and it’s also a lot more natural. Instead of shading ourselves to within an inch of our lives, we just highlight certain features with a glow. If you’ve been a client of mine before, lucky you(!), you’ll know I enjoy a good highlighter. You will allow your skin to breathe a bit more as you’ll have less layers on it.

Strobing focuses exclusively on highlighter, applied where light would naturally hit your face – your cheekbones, brow bones, the centre of your forehead, down your nose, on your chin and above your cupid’s bow.)It’s all about popping and less about hiding and totally changing your face… beyond recognition in some instances!

Here’s my top products for you to ”strobe” with:

1. Mac’s Strobe Cream

So, this baby is technically a base product and it’s a brilliant one too. But it can also be used as a highlighter thanks to it’s iridescent particles. It will enhance your complexion and take your skin from to dull to glowing in an instant. You can pick this up for €33.50 for a 50ml tube.

Strobe Cream

2. Mac’s Mineralise Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle

One of my favourite highlighters of all time, Mac’s Soft and Gentle gives you a fabulous glow. If you wet your fingers a little, this will enhance your glow. It sweeps beautifully onto the apple of the cheeks. I have this product in Lightscapade too and it’s just as good. It’s €30.00 but it’s worth every pretty penny!

3. Botanics Radiance Balm

Botanics Radiance Balm can be used all over the face for an even and perfected skin-tone. It can also be used to give you a ”wetter” looking glow. It will definitely look less matte than the powder highlighters but you will be getting a shimmer that will dazzle. It’s a very good dupe for Mac’s Strobe Cream and it’s only €3.99 from Boots.

Botanics Radiance Balm

4. Seventeen Instant Glow Shimmer Brick

This Boots product is another great multi-tasker and it’ll help you achieve the look easily. It can be used as an eyeshadow too. The lightest colour in this shimmer brick will give you a nice gentle glow. This is perfect for anyone who might be a little afraid.  Oh, and it isn’t pink like the tube suggests either and the best part is that you can pick up this product for €3.99.

5. Phloof! Eyeshadow from Mac

A great eyeshadow to have to hand as it doubles up as a highlighter too. Hoorah. You can get this as a refill for €10 or a stand alone shadow for €16.50. It has been favourite of mine for years and it looks fantastic under the brow area.

I thought I’d write this piece to keep you all informed that you don’t have to rush out and buy a load of new products to be in with the Strobe crew, you probably already have it at home and you might even already be doing it, if you’ve been following my tips 🙂

May the Strobe be with you,

Botox Facial??!! – Juliette Armand Skin Boosters

”Your appointment with plastic surgery is postponed” is the tagline for these Juliette Armand Skin Booster facials. And you know what? They are right!

I jumped at the chance to try out the non-invasive treatment at Creative Spa as it’s a popular subject with my clients. People are so afraid of botox now after hearing a number of horror stories about the wrong stuff being injected or allergic reactions. So, a facial that offers similar results to botox was right up my street. Plus there’s not much I’d say no to except maybe a colonic irrigation off an enemy.

Now, I am not saying I am an old leather bag, yet(!), or anything but I am definitely starting to see the signs of aging. My eye area, around my lips and even my forehead. I definitely laugh way too much, and I kind of smile like the mask from the Saw movies.

The one giveaway sign of way too much botox, I feel, is a big shiny forehead coupled with the lack of movement in said forehead or general facial expressions.

No, I am sad, really sad… Can’t you tell?

The Skin Booster system is parabens free, propylene glycol free, mineral oil free and allergen free. It uses active ingredients to work deep down into your muscles in order to stop them contracting and causing wrinkles. Botox will just work on your muscle, where the Skin Boosters improve the appearance of your skin too.

Kim was my therapist for the day and she told me that my prescriptive treatment would be the Thavma facial. This facial is particularly good for Under 45’s. You can also opt into a Chronos or Opsis facial depending on your age and needs, there’s something for everyone. Thavma Therapy is based on the EFFECTOX ™(You know shiz is good when they trademark a name!!!) technology that inhibits the mechanism that is responsible for the creation of expression lines and wrinkles. But there’s more: it also offers protection from the main types of aging.

The Thavma serum that is placed on your skin during the facial works deep down into the cells, it kind of feels like pins and needles all over your face. It’s not remotely uncomfortable though, in case you think I am signing you up for some sadistic acupuncture. As soon as this serum is placed onto your skin, it gets to work. It stimulates the blood flow to create new cells and to give your skin a more youthful appearance.

The cream that works on your lines and wrinkles specifically is in a syringe format but rest assured, it’s not a syringe. It’s a cream placed into the wrinkles of your skin to get to work. The Thavma cream smells lovely too, it smells like a Banana yogurt. Yes, the temptation to lick my own face was quite strong.

On top of all this, the hands that delivered the facial and the massage while the serum did it’s work were amazing. Kim is an exceptional masseuse as she even eased as out tension knot in my back. It helps too that’s she very funny and very clear about each step that she performs on you.

Thavma Cream

When I got home, my other half commented that my eyes looked bigger or ”lifted” and this is huge, as he usually says I look like Lucy Liu’s paler blonde cousin. My skin looked plump, fresh and youthful. I could see the blood had rushed to my cheeks too as it worked to produce new cells and I rarely change colour on my face, I’m like something out of Twilight. My cheeks felt plumper too and my forehead was smooth. I looked like I’d just come out of the womb!

The facial lasts 45 minutes and it’s €80.00. While you might think this is a little pricey, when you see the results you’ll gladly pay the money. This would be fantastic for a bride or anyone who is half tempted by botox but is scared shitless of the risks. A course of 10 facials are recommended for maximum results, but you can see a massive difference after three.

There are at home products available to use too if you just wanted one facial and then to use the creams. I think it’s time for me to invest in my face, so I am thinking of doing the exact same myself.

You can check out the Juliette Armand Skin Boosters at Creative Spa today, they are running special offers on their products and facials until Saturday. Call Aoife on 01-4295122 or check them out here.

For more information on Juliette Armand, you can check out their website here.
