No7’s Airbrush Away Primer

Ah, primer! Everyone should be using primer, it’s one of my ultimate items in my makeup kit. Young and old alike, we can all benefit from using it. I am pretty sure I’d even like this primer for my funeral makeup! That’s how strong my love is for primer. I may be dead, but at least my skin looks sh&t hot! Having used it on myself, for a bridal party and a bridal trial, my conclusion is that this primer is a good ‘un! Once your base is perfected, it makes the rest of your makeup so much easier.

It’s a 30ml tube and it goes on to a peachy silk effect. Both my Mac and Vichy foundations glided nicely over it with minimum effort. That’s what you want in the morning, easy makeup routines! I used this primer on all skin types, young and old, dry and oily and it really worked well across each one. Which can be rare! This primer is also fantastic when paired with it’s No7 counterpart – Airbrush Away Foundation! You’ll be quite the matte Mary if you use these two together.

The primer is long-lasting too and really gives a nice base for you to apply your foundation on. It’ll even out the skin-tone and act as a protective barrier for you skin. This primer contains silicon and light diffusing particles that puts wrinkles, pores and uneven skin tone into soft focus, reducing the appearance of all the signs of ageing instantly!! Pores and fine lines appear to disappear and wrinkles are put in to soft focus leaving your skin perfectly smooth and even all day.

It contains that all important hyaluronic acid, which are moisture locking spheres to help soften the appearance of fine lines and smooth the skin. I will gladly be off my head on this kind of acid all the live long day!!!

The primer is available in store and online from Boots and it’s €22.00. There’s a 3 for 2 offer on at the moment too! You only need a pea sized amount and spread evenly over moisturised skin.

Inside the Travel Makeup Bag of a Tallaght Slag ;)

Ah, it’s always a conundrum for me. How the hell am I supposed to get ALL that makeup into a tiny little bag!? Oh mimmy. My must have item for any trip are my Zuca bags. They are clear pouches but you can cram lots into them. My other item is my roll out makeup brush pouch.

You can check out the Zuca bags here – http://www.zuca-europe.com/artist-collection/pouches/utility-pouch-small.html

With regards to my fold up pouch – it’s one I have had for years and it’s probably my longest lasting relationship at this stage. This hoe is loyal!!!

My original pouch is gone but here’s one I have had my eyes on from some time – it’s compact and doubles up as a storage unit while you get ready. Oh, and you can wash it too. Sold? Check it out here:  https://www.makeupforever.ie/products/bags-pouches/danys-pouch. Soon, my pretty, soon!

My pouch fits into my Zuca bag perfectly and this in turn fits perfectly into my bagpack. I look like one sexy Dora the Explorer.

Dora Bagpack

I often get asked the best products to bring for holidays/city breaks. A few years ago, I would have been the last person to ask as I used to bring my entire makeup kit! Forever fearful I might want something mid-holiday that I’ve left behind – God forbid! I was only short of putting my full length mirror in the case.

I’ve now downsized and I’ve become cut-throat; my foundations, they weep! Here’s what got the call up for my recent trips:

1. Foundations:

I always bring a day foundation and a night time one, especially if it’s a City break, although sometimes you go out during the day, and you end up ”out, out” so one could do you! Here’s some of my favourites:

1. MAC Studio Scuplt in NC30

2. Vichy Teint Ideal Foundations in Fluid and Cream – greedy bitch, I know!

3. My Face and Body foundations usually get a look in for a summer holiday too.

2. Eyeshadows

I used to pack almost every eyeshadow palette I possessed previously, I now de-pan my favourite ones and put them into two MAC quad palettes now. My other new baby is the Melt Cosmetics Dark Matter stack is formulated to give you a smokey effect with a difference. No standard grey smokeyness here people! These eyeshadows are my new favourites, the colours are really different and I find the pigment excellent too. They come in a perfect cylinder stack and it has a mirror too, meaning you’re saving space too. They are available online and it works out at abut €45.00 but it’s worth it.

3. Concealers

I try to go for a lighter concealer for holidays, mainly one with light reflecting particles. My Vichy illuminating concealer made the cut here. When going on a sun holiday, I always bring a green concealer to cancel out any redness from sun exposure. Without fail, my snout always gets burnt. Shock!!

1. Teint Ideal Illuminating Concealer – perfect for brightening up your complexion.

2. Make Up Forever Concealer Palette – this comes with multiple colours, including on orange that’s perfect for bruising! (Please say it’s not just me that comes home crawling on all fours on holidays!!)

4. Brushes

Ooooh my babies… I luff you all. This one always takes a lot of deliberation but the following brushes will always get a look in, no matter what the holiday. Try to bring as many multi-tasking products as possible and usually when I am on holidays I wear less makeup. A tan takes you from a five to a solid eight instantly, yes?!

5. After Flight Care

Vichy Eau Thermale spray will replenish your tired dehydrated skin on the flight over and back. It can be your toner and will also help with those effects from alcohol overload! But maybe not the jaundice 😉 At €10, you can’t not buy this, it’s available in all good pharmacies.

6. BB Cream

I won’t lie to you, I was never really ”into” BB creams, I just didn’t see the draw. I’m all about the coverage baby. But I decided to experiment a little and I found the Soltan BB Cream from Boots to be very good for a lovely day time look that offers protections. Perfect for a day where you want to go ”makeup free” without looking like Morticia Adams. This one has an SPF of 50 too for as little as €4.00. Niiice. You also won’t end up like this:

Shades Burn

My final saving grace would be my HD Brows and mink lashes, I’d rather stay at home if I didn’t have these. My go to place is The Lash Lounge in Dundrum.

Strobing – It’s nothing new!!!

If you are a social media whore like myself, you’ve probably noticed a bit of buzz around the word ”Strobing”? What the fook is strobing though? It kind of sounds like something you might do while on E. Well, apparently, it’s the new contouring darling. Except, it’s not really new. I’ve been strobing for years… I didn’t even know I was so on-trend. Sad face.

The good news is, it’s a lot easier and takes less time than contouring and it’s also a lot more natural. Instead of shading ourselves to within an inch of our lives, we just highlight certain features with a glow. If you’ve been a client of mine before, lucky you(!), you’ll know I enjoy a good highlighter. You will allow your skin to breathe a bit more as you’ll have less layers on it.

Strobing focuses exclusively on highlighter, applied where light would naturally hit your face – your cheekbones, brow bones, the centre of your forehead, down your nose, on your chin and above your cupid’s bow.)It’s all about popping and less about hiding and totally changing your face… beyond recognition in some instances!

Here’s my top products for you to ”strobe” with:

1. Mac’s Strobe Cream

So, this baby is technically a base product and it’s a brilliant one too. But it can also be used as a highlighter thanks to it’s iridescent particles. It will enhance your complexion and take your skin from to dull to glowing in an instant. You can pick this up for €33.50 for a 50ml tube.

2. Mac’s Mineralise Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle

One of my favourite highlighters of all time, Mac’s Soft and Gentle gives you a fabulous glow. If you wet your fingers a little, this will enhance your glow. It sweeps beautifully onto the apple of the cheeks. I have this product in Lightscapade too and it’s just as good. It’s €30.00 but it’s worth every pretty penny!

3. Botanics Radiance Balm

Botanics Radiance Balm can be used all over the face for an even and perfected skin-tone. It can also be used to give you a ”wetter” looking glow. It will definitely look less matte than the powder highlighters but you will be getting a shimmer that will dazzle. It’s a very good dupe for Mac’s Strobe Cream and it’s only €3.99 from Boots.

4. Seventeen Instant Glow Shimmer Brick

This Boots product is another great multi-tasker and it’ll help you achieve the look easily. It can be used as an eyeshadow too. The lightest colour in this shimmer brick will give you a nice gentle glow. This is perfect for anyone who might be a little afraid.  Oh, and it isn’t pink like the tube suggests either and the best part is that you can pick up this product for €3.99.

5. Phloof! Eyeshadow from Mac

A great eyeshadow to have to hand as it doubles up as a highlighter too. Hoorah. You can get this as a refill for €10 or a stand alone shadow for €16.50. It has been favourite of mine for years and it looks fantastic under the brow area.

I thought I’d write this piece to keep you all informed that you don’t have to rush out and buy a load of new products to be in with the Strobe crew, you probably already have it at home and you might even already be doing it, if you’ve been following my tips 🙂

May the Strobe be with you,
