MAC’s Waterweight Foundation

So, as you may have gathered by now, I am quite the slut for MAC. There’s very few products within the range that I don’t like, they are my go to brand. They’ve recently added a new foundation to their range, waheeeeyyyyy… *does a little wee in the pantalons*. It’s the Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation and it’s an excellent addition to their foundation lineup. I love the Face & Body Foundation and if you like that, than you’ll really like this foundation too. The water-like formula sets to a satin finish that is neither matte nor moisturising—striking a balance that makes this an option for nearly any skin type, including the acne-prone. Woop! There’s also an SPF 30 + in this foundation too. Not only is it making your skin look sh*t hot, it’s also protecting it.

Housed in a heavy glass bottle with a dropper applicator (there’s those bleeding droppers again, they are everywhere!!), Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation is a clever addition to the recent trend of serum foundations. This provides initially sheer coverage that can be layered to medium and looks incredibly natural on skin because let’s be honest, no one wants a cake face, except for X-Tina that is..

FullSizeRender (2)

Due to its fluid nature, you may be surprised by how little you need to cover your whole face, unless you’ve a face like the moon that is!!  A few drops were more than sufficient for a full face and it easily evened out a  my complexion.

This blends effortlessly onto skin—whether you use your fingers, a sponge or brush. Those with oily or combination skin will likely love how light this feels, while those on the dry side will find this layers well over a richer moisturiser and resists clinging to dry patches. This does not control shine well, nor does it claim to, so expect to powder and/or blot as usual.

Mac currently offers this in a stunning array of 23 shades that includes the most common shades between fair to deep skin tones. As this has a lighter degree of coverage, the shades are more forgiving!

You can get your Waterweight foundation in Brown Thomas today. It’s €36.50 and if Santa was real sound, he’d bring this for you 😉

No7’s Airbrush Away Primer

Ah, primer! Everyone should be using primer, it’s one of my ultimate items in my makeup kit. Young and old alike, we can all benefit from using it. I am pretty sure I’d even like this primer for my funeral makeup! That’s how strong my love is for primer. I may be dead, but at least my skin looks sh&t hot! Having used it on myself, for a bridal party and a bridal trial, my conclusion is that this primer is a good ‘un! Once your base is perfected, it makes the rest of your makeup so much easier.

It’s a 30ml tube and it goes on to a peachy silk effect. Both my Mac and Vichy foundations glided nicely over it with minimum effort. That’s what you want in the morning, easy makeup routines! I used this primer on all skin types, young and old, dry and oily and it really worked well across each one. Which can be rare! This primer is also fantastic when paired with it’s No7 counterpart – Airbrush Away Foundation! You’ll be quite the matte Mary if you use these two together.

The primer is long-lasting too and really gives a nice base for you to apply your foundation on. It’ll even out the skin-tone and act as a protective barrier for you skin. This primer contains silicon and light diffusing particles that puts wrinkles, pores and uneven skin tone into soft focus, reducing the appearance of all the signs of ageing instantly!! Pores and fine lines appear to disappear and wrinkles are put in to soft focus leaving your skin perfectly smooth and even all day.

It contains that all important hyaluronic acid, which are moisture locking spheres to help soften the appearance of fine lines and smooth the skin. I will gladly be off my head on this kind of acid all the live long day!!!

The primer is available in store and online from Boots and it’s €22.00. There’s a 3 for 2 offer on at the moment too! You only need a pea sized amount and spread evenly over moisturised skin.

Vichy – Teint Idéal Range

This week I got to play with lots of Vichy products, thanks to Amanda in Hickey’s Pharmacy on Henry Street. In the run up to their Teint Idéal launch, I tested the cream foundation, fluid foundation, concealer, highlighter and powder. I am usually a MAC foundation girl, going from Sculpt to Pro Longwear to Studio Fix. It’s a vicious cycle! But as always, I was happy to play the guinea pig..

Vichy haul

The Teint Idéal range is all about illuminating the skin, projecting a flawless finish that provides coverage and lasts up to 12 hours. Yipee! As Vichy already know the skincare game inside out, they’ve formulated makeup that becomes one with your skin whilst being packed with vitamins.

The liquid foundations come in 5 shades:

15. Ivory

25. Sand

35. Rosie Sand

45. Honey

55. Bronze

Vichy Teint Ideal

1. Illuminating Cream Foundation

I loved this foundation, it’s a cream based product and it’s a similar consistency to the Mac Studio Sculpt. It gives excellent coverage while being lightweight so it never feels too heavy. It photographs really well, yet still manages to look natural.

This cream foundation is perfect for dry and sensitive skin, it glides on (I used my MAC 190 brush), and sets to a velvet like finish. It has an SPF of 20 too, so you’ll be protected throughout the day from the weather elements. No haggard leather bag faces for us! My skin looked great even before I had put on my concealer and set with powder.

I opted for number 45 Honey in the cream foundation as I thought the consistency would be a good nighttime foundation, the colour also matches well with the Rimmel BB 9 in 1 tan. I did test the 35 Rosie Sand on my hand, and this is very similar to the NW shade tones from MAC.

It’s €22.50, which is very reasonable for an excellent foundation and it comes in a 30ml tube.

2. Iluminating Fluid Foundation

I was interested in the fluid foundation in the range as I am always on the lookout for a powerful, longlasting foundation for the day that can endure a busy life. I chose 25 Sand in this foundation as I didn’t fancy looking like I had dipped myself in Ronseal during work hours.

The fluid foundation is best suited for normal to combination skin, it will project your skin, but a better version of it. It will illuminate and even out your skin tone. The fluid version combats oil, I found it withheld any type of shine longer than other foundations. I kept checking my bulbous nose throughout the day in work to see if any oil was escaping.

This is a lovely day foundation as I felt my skin could breathe but gave me the confidence that I had coverage and that it would last all day.

The fluid foundation is €22.50 and comes in a 30ml pump bottle.

3. Compact Powder Foundation

So, I used this as a powder instead of as a foundation and it’s a bleeding deadly powder! If you have very good skin, bitch(!) if you do, then you can definitely use just this compact to even out your skin tone and to give you a light finish.

I selected this powder in 2 Medium, it works well over the number 25 fluid foundation and over the cream foundation too. The powder sets exceptionally well over both, giving a matte finish that’s longlasting. It will control oil and it’s so light in texture that it won’t leave you caked. I used my powder brush to apply this instead of the sponge that comes with it.

If you are using it with the sponge as a foundation, blend outwards, building where you need it more on certain areas.

It comes with a mirror, is available in 3 shades and it’s €25.00.

Powder Foundation

4. Concealer Roll-on

I haven’t used a roll-on product in years, serious throw back feeling using this, you can either place this directly onto your skin or roll onto your hand and then apply. I used the latter method, this is a good concealer, it brightens the eyes and covers dark circles. It works nicely down the middle of your nose and above your cupid’s bow for some easy, quick contouring. I used this in number 1 and it combined brilliantly with both the fluid and cream foundation. You can use it alone or over your foundation.

I am all for anything that is a 2-in-1 saving some €’s. This product is €15.99

5. Illuminator Roll-on

This is a very good product for highlighting your cheekbones, under the brow, along the nose and above your cupid’s bow. It is very similar to MAC Strobe Cream, except a bit lighter in consistency. It’s a roller ball format again, I rolled it onto my hand and then applied it. I used to be a little adverse to highlighter as I am all about the matte, but I am really becoming very slutty with them now! This one would be a nice one if you haven’t used one before or like a gentle hint. You can build this up to whatever amount you desire.

The Illuminator is €15.99.

Highligter Pure Light Face Roll-on

I have really enjoyed testing this range and I am in love with the cream foundation, it ticks all the boxes for me. It would also look very well on brides for a flawless finish. The pricing is very good too for the quality of products and it’s all about being good to our skin and this product definitely nourishes and protects. I am a little strung out on my Vichy products at the minute and my skin is reaping the benefits. Vichy have gained a new fan!

As a treat to all my readers, Hickey’s Pharmacy on Henry Street are offering 10% off to anyone that mentions ”The Girl Pout Town” to them. You can ask specifically for Amanda or Sorcha. You are in expert hands! I know you might think it’s a bit of a trek, but it will be well worth it for a consultation and the dicky discount!

Here’s some photos of the cream foundation:

Dylan Bradshaw Salon – The Nails and Makeup Experience

salon images 303

Ah, my love affair with Dylan continues..  Marry me?! I visited the Dylan Bradshaw the other week to experience their nail bar and makeup. As someone who is regularly beautifying others, it’s a real treat to go and get pampered myself. I got to test out some of Dylan Bradshaw’s own brand makeup too.. I was happy as a pig in sh*t!

salon images 298

The salon itself is plush and always looks immaculate and the staff are really friendly too, which is always a bonus I feel. Again, this is not the free Prosecco or the Lindt chocolate tallking! Michelle and Leanne were tasked with helping me to enjoy my pampering. Michelle did my makeup and she was brilliant, talking me through the DB products, I loved the makeup look she created.

FullSizeRender (1)

I went for a red polish as I hadn’t had a red in awhile and it goes with lots, Leanne was lovely and she gave an immaculate polish. It was the Shellac polish that Leanne applied and it’s still perfect on my nails at the moment. I am a bit of a slapper for the Shellac, it literally comes off and it is straight back on again every 2-3 weeks.

Some of my favourite products from my makeover were:

1. db FACE Skin Transforming Foundation in Cream Beige or Almond

Michelle used a mix of these two colours on me in order to match me down perfectly to my tan. This is a lovely light foundation but still gives your coverage. My skin felt like it could breathe and I really like the finish it gave me, it felt smooth and luxurious. It was long-lasting too. It glided on and the pump will make sure you don’t overuse the product. You can get this foundation in the Dylan Bradshaw Salon and one of the girls will happily match you up. It’s €32 and I think I will be adding it to my kit very soon.

2. db FACE Tawney Peach Blusher

A lovely blusher to give you that gentle glow without making you look overdone. I really like this colour and found it worked really well against my skin, highlighting and reflecting to compliment my skin tone. It’s very similiar to MAC’s Warm Soul. This blusher is €22.

db FACE Tawny Peach

3. db FACE Goddess Lipstick

A fab nude lipstick that worked really well against my skin tone, it was long-lasting and matte. It did not dry out easily either, which is always good. No one likes a scaldy lip! This product is €22 also.

db FACE Goddess Lipstick

I don’t have a picture of my other favourite product but it was the db FACE Eyelights Sunbronze and it was gorgeous on the lid of my eye, really popping the blue out. It would also be gorgeous on you green-eyed babies. It’s €15.00 and it’s going into my kit.. and my personal pile too.. which is ever growing!

Finally, their brushes are of excellent quality. They have a Fibre Foundation brush for €26, or the smaller one for €19, the brush is very similar to the MAC Fibre Brush.. except a lot less 🙂

The Nails and Makeup Experience would be fantastic as a treat for someone special, a hen party warm-up or when you fancy being a Primadonna and treating yourself. I will definitely be returning for my hair, makeup and nails. You can check out Dylan Bradshaw here, they are based at 56 South William Street or you can phone them on: 01-6719358.

Day 9 – Makeup Bag Essentials Countdown

Foundation day, let’s face it, we would all be fairly f&cked without this! We have come a long way since the early days of Panstik, the ole wans were mad for that for a while, it only seemed to come in flourescent orange too. Then came the Elizabeth Arden flock, where everyone smelled of ”Toasty Beige”! That smell still hangs in my nostrils.

Foundation comes in different forms and textures and it’s all about finding ”the one” for you that makes your skin look amazing. If you like a slightly darker foundation than your actual skin tone then please at least wear tan to match. Or if you like your tan dark, make sure your foundation matches! I would recommend a day foundation and night foundation to tackle this problem. A white face and orange body….

I am going to add my criss cross motion video too from the other day to help you in foundation application as again it’s half of the battle. It’s so simple to blend and it avoids any noticeable tidemarks along the jaw or hairline. I even blend into my ears and up unto my nostrils! Extreme, yet effective.

No one should look like this;

Foundation line

1. Mac Cosmetics Studio Sculpt

I love Studio Sculpt foundation, it’s very creamy and feels lovely on your skin as it’s lightweight. This provides medium to full coverage and it is easy to blend. There is a SPF 15 in this foundation too to protect your skin, it’s long lasting and gives a satin finish. This product works well with all loose powders and compact powders. It is particularly good on normal-dry and mature skin. I have not found a face yet that hasn’t looked well with Studio Sculpt. I wear NC35 for my nighttime look.

Tip: You only need a small amount each time as it blends and spreads really well.

Price: €36.50 – using the tip above it should last you.

2. Mac Cosmetics Studio Fix Fluid

Studio Fix foundation will give you that matte finish you crave all the while making you looking smooth. This is a medium to full coverage foundation and it works extra hard to cover those imperfections and pores meaning it doesn’t feel quite as lightweight as the Studio Sculpt. I love this foundation for a day out or for nighttime as I know it’s resilient and it makes my skin look great too. This works really well with Studio Tech compact powder if you love the full coverage look. Again, use the criss cross motion so you’re not applying too much, you don’t want it to dry and pocket in a problem area as the fluid is quite thick. It also has a SPF of 15.

You can purchase this product here. It’s €31.50.

3. Mac Cosmetics Face and Body Foundation

Face and Body is a much lighter fluid for those of you who don’t like much coverage or the feeling of makeup. It is of light to medium coverage and you can build it up too to enhance the coverage. I really like this foundation as it does what it says, it can go on the face and body meaning it can give you an all over colour that matches. When I have a real tan, I love to use this as it enhances the tan on my face and gives me that perfect beachy look. It’s also beautiful on brides who want the light touch look as it photographs really well. It’s rather sheer but gives a lovely glow and makes you look dewy. If you are used to full coverage you’d probably feel rather exposed wearing this.

Price: €31.50

4. Mac Cosmetics Pro Longwear Foundation

It’s long-lasting and it keeps you looking oil free throughout your day. I have been using this product mainly during the day time lately, but it’s a great nighttime one too. I find when I’ve a busy day ahead I know I won’t have to worry about it retreating into my pores and disintegrating away. It has a medium coverage that is buildable. The pump allows you to just extract the right amount too. I wear NC25 or NC30 in this foundation depending on how pasty I am. This foundation dries quite fast so remember this when applying. If you like Estee Lauder Double Wear you should like this too.
