MAC’s Waterweight Foundation

So, as you may have gathered by now, I am quite the slut for MAC. There’s very few products within the range that I don’t like, they are my go to brand. They’ve recently added a new foundation to their range, waheeeeyyyyy… *does a little wee in the pantalons*. It’s the Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation and it’s an excellent addition to their foundation lineup. I love the Face & Body Foundation and if you like that, than you’ll really like this foundation too. The water-like formula sets to a satin finish that is neither matte nor moisturising—striking a balance that makes this an option for nearly any skin type, including the acne-prone. Woop! There’s also an SPF 30 + in this foundation too. Not only is it making your skin look sh*t hot, it’s also protecting it.

Housed in a heavy glass bottle with a dropper applicator (there’s those bleeding droppers again, they are everywhere!!), Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation is a clever addition to the recent trend of serum foundations. This provides initially sheer coverage that can be layered to medium and looks incredibly natural on skin because let’s be honest, no one wants a cake face, except for X-Tina that is..

FullSizeRender (2)

Due to its fluid nature, you may be surprised by how little you need to cover your whole face, unless you’ve a face like the moon that is!!  A few drops were more than sufficient for a full face and it easily evened out a  my complexion.

This blends effortlessly onto skin—whether you use your fingers, a sponge or brush. Those with oily or combination skin will likely love how light this feels, while those on the dry side will find this layers well over a richer moisturiser and resists clinging to dry patches. This does not control shine well, nor does it claim to, so expect to powder and/or blot as usual.

Mac currently offers this in a stunning array of 23 shades that includes the most common shades between fair to deep skin tones. As this has a lighter degree of coverage, the shades are more forgiving!

Day 11 – Makeup Bag Essentials Countdown

Bonjourno! We are staying with the eyes again today, it’s the brushes and eyeshadows. If you have the right brushes, it can transform your makeup. You also need to stay within the limits of your eye shape and width, then blend, blend, blend!

Take your time and test out some new colours, in  the safety of your own home of course. Get used to the new look on yourself, the more you look at yourself the more you’ll know if you like it and are comfortable with it. Remember to occasionally take a step back, see how it looks overall and then get back to adding or blending. You do not want to look like Taylor Momsen after being let loose with a Kohl pencil on speed. Unless, you’re dressed as a racoon for Halloween.

1. Mac Cosmetics 217 Blending Brush

If you only ever buy one eye brush, let it be this! This is a hero product, it blends and sweeps beautifully across the eye giving an almost silky effect to your eyeshadow against the skin. These brushes are longlasting, they don’t shed and they can be washed. This product can also be used for concealer to buff it into the skin or for when you are contouring along your nose. It works exceptionally well in the crease of your eye or underneath the eye when you want to blend close to the lash line. The domed brushed helps you to get that perfect ”V” effect for a smokey eye.

217 Blending Brush

Price: €25.00

 2. MAC Cosmetics 239 Shader Brush

Another power brush from MAC, the 239 is fantastic for sweeping on your base colour or packing colour onto the lid for a more intense look. This tapered brush can also be used on the brow bone or underneath the eye making it a great multi-tasking product. It is white also like the 217 brush making it easier to see how much product you are picking up each time. This makes your task easier and saves product waste. A lovely soft brush that responds well to being cleaned. AMEN!

Price: €28.00

3. Nars #45 Smudge Brush

If you can stretch your budget to include this bad boy then do it! This is perfect brush for smudging, working colours along the lashline, removing excess and can also soften your liner. A soft brush that will work well with even the most sensitive eyes. This was one of my my first ”pro” purchases and I still love it.

Eye Color Eyeshadow Recomendations

Mac Eyeshadows

Pro palettes: Mac eyeshadows are brilliant because they are highly pigmented and long lasting. I would be here all day if I was to name all of my favourites but you can build your own pro palette in a quad or in the 15 pan you should.  They blend really evenly. You can depot any of your singular MAC shadows you have already and put them into your palette then. It’s €6.50 for the quad palette and €19.00 per refill.

Pigments: High intensity coloured loose powder that comes in a cylinder pot. They are easy to blend and are long lasting. They will not cake or flake on you throughout the night. There’s a great range of colours too that can give your makeup the wow factor. You can pop them directly onto you lid or into the corners of your eyes to make your eye makeup pop. The pigments are €24.50 but there’s a lot of powder in them to last you.

Pro Longwear Paintpots: A great product to mix it up in the eye department. It goes on creamy but dries to a vibrant matte like finish. Paintpots glide on easily, they are durable and they are crease free. The perfect shadow for day or night! Paintpots are €20.00.

Sleek Eye Palette

I Divine Eye Palette in ”Oh So Special” : A brilliant eye palette with a great range of colours. They are well pigmented and glide on beautifully. ”The Mail” in this palette is a real power shadow. The palette also has some gorgeous shimmer shadows that are perfect for the under eye area especially Gift Basket, I am strung out on this. The product comes in a nice case with a mirror and the names of each shadow on a little sheet. This product is €9.99 making it a steal. You can purchase this here or at Carshelles Beauty, where Caroline and Michelle can assist you in picking the perfect stocking filler.

Catrice Eyeshadow

Liquid Colour: There’s really good pigment in these eyeshadow, they give an excellent shimmer to the eye and I love how it packs onto my lid or in the corner of my eye. ”We are the Champagnes” in this product is one I adore. It is €6.50 and available in Dunnes and McCabes.

There will tutorials on the eyes coming soon, so keep them peeled!

Following the advice above and from yesterday, you should never look too bocky-eyed 😉

The Girl Pout Town,

Day 9 – Makeup Bag Essentials Countdown

Foundation day, let’s face it, we would all be fairly f&cked without this! We have come a long way since the early days of Panstik, the ole wans were mad for that for a while, it only seemed to come in flourescent orange too. Then came the Elizabeth Arden flock, where everyone smelled of ”Toasty Beige”! That smell still hangs in my nostrils.

Foundation comes in different forms and textures and it’s all about finding ”the one” for you that makes your skin look amazing. If you like a slightly darker foundation than your actual skin tone then please at least wear tan to match. Or if you like your tan dark, make sure your foundation matches! I would recommend a day foundation and night foundation to tackle this problem. A white face and orange body….

I am going to add my criss cross motion video too from the other day to help you in foundation application as again it’s half of the battle. It’s so simple to blend and it avoids any noticeable tidemarks along the jaw or hairline. I even blend into my ears and up unto my nostrils! Extreme, yet effective.

No one should look like this;

Foundation line

1. Mac Cosmetics Studio Sculpt

I love Studio Sculpt foundation, it’s very creamy and feels lovely on your skin as it’s lightweight. This provides medium to full coverage and it is easy to blend. There is a SPF 15 in this foundation too to protect your skin, it’s long lasting and gives a satin finish. This product works well with all loose powders and compact powders. It is particularly good on normal-dry and mature skin. I have not found a face yet that hasn’t looked well with Studio Sculpt. I wear NC35 for my nighttime look.

Tip: You only need a small amount each time as it blends and spreads really well.

Price: €36.50 – using the tip above it should last you.

2. Mac Cosmetics Studio Fix Fluid

Studio Fix foundation will give you that matte finish you crave all the while making you looking smooth. This is a medium to full coverage foundation and it works extra hard to cover those imperfections and pores meaning it doesn’t feel quite as lightweight as the Studio Sculpt. I love this foundation for a day out or for nighttime as I know it’s resilient and it makes my skin look great too. This works really well with Studio Tech compact powder if you love the full coverage look. Again, use the criss cross motion so you’re not applying too much, you don’t want it to dry and pocket in a problem area as the fluid is quite thick. It also has a SPF of 15.

You can purchase this product here. It’s €31.50.

3. Mac Cosmetics Face and Body Foundation

Face and Body is a much lighter fluid for those of you who don’t like much coverage or the feeling of makeup. It is of light to medium coverage and you can build it up too to enhance the coverage. I really like this foundation as it does what it says, it can go on the face and body meaning it can give you an all over colour that matches. When I have a real tan, I love to use this as it enhances the tan on my face and gives me that perfect beachy look. It’s also beautiful on brides who want the light touch look as it photographs really well. It’s rather sheer but gives a lovely glow and makes you look dewy. If you are used to full coverage you’d probably feel rather exposed wearing this.

Face and Body

Price: €31.50

4. Mac Cosmetics Pro Longwear Foundation

It’s long-lasting and it keeps you looking oil free throughout your day. I have been using this product mainly during the day time lately, but it’s a great nighttime one too. I find when I’ve a busy day ahead I know I won’t have to worry about it retreating into my pores and disintegrating away. It has a medium coverage that is buildable. The pump allows you to just extract the right amount too. I wear NC25 or NC30 in this foundation depending on how pasty I am. This foundation dries quite fast so remember this when applying. If you like Estee Lauder Double Wear you should like this too.

Price: €36.50

Every woman should have a primer, here are some select ranges to help you on your way:

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer – €32.00

Mac Prep and Prime Skin Visage – €27.00

Day 8 – Makeup Bag Essentials Countdown

It’s the dawning of the lip liner… Lip liner has become popular in recent times with people embracing lipsticks more and moving on from just one colour. Did anyone else’s Mam tend to have just one Max Factor lippy when you’d go pilfering from their makeup bag? It’s also due to the likes of Kylie Jenner drawing attention to the lips and the rise of the duck pout. I enjoy a pout but if your mouth looks like a cat’s arse then you’re doing it wrong!

When you’re using lip liner you’ve got to have a steady hand, draw within reasonable limits and choose the correct colour. They are used to shape, correct, line or fill in the lip, and again, when used correctly they can be excellent! I have a little granny upper lip so I find that lip liner helps me to pout perfection. Here’s how it should NOT look:

Jaysus, I am giving poor Pammy a terrible time on this blog!

I have a number of different pencils lurking in my makeup kit but I have managed to narrow it down to four… I think!

1. MAC Cosmetics Naked Liner

These pencils should give you smooth surface to work with whether you use it for just lining or for filling in the lip. It can be used alone with just a slick of gloss, or combined with the lipstick and gloss for ultimate staying power.  Naked Liner is durable too so it’ll last you the day or night. This liner works well with MAC’s Japanese Maple and also MAC’s Creme D’Nude lipsticks.

The Naked Liner is €16.50 and if you use this a lipstick/liner you’re saving yourself some €’s 🙂

2. Make Up Forever’s Aqua Lip Liner

This has been in my kit for a long time, as you may have guessed, the Aqua Lip liner is waterproof. There is really good pigmentation too so it’ll last you without you having to wondering if your top lip has receded back towards your natural gum line. Nice. I really like this colour on it’s own too as the pigmentation allows it to be carried off as a lipstick. This lip pencil featured in my contouring review on Facebook as a lipstick.

You can purchase this in the MUFE shop in Clarendon Street for €16.50. Check them out here.

3. Rimmel London Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses Lip Liner Red Dynamite

Rimmel are delivering on the durability side of things, between this and their Provocalips range, they must be cooking some good shiz in a lab somewhere Breaking Bad style. This will give you a creamy lip whilst giving you transfer resistant colour. Pucker up this festive season with Rimmel’s offering in Red Dynamite.

This is €4.49 in Boots and other pharmacies. They also have 3 for 2 on Rimmel at the moment with a free nail varnish! Bonanza.

4Mac Cosmetics Nightmoth

Nightmoth will match your MAC Rebel lipstick and I thought I should include it for the fearless who want to give it a go. Please take heed when drawing this on as you don’t want to go too Marilyn Manson. It’ll give you the perfect outline to rock the MAC Rebel, it’s longlasting and will stay put! Good luck 🙂

This product is also €16.50.

TIP: See the little chart below, follow this and you can’t go wrong…

Day 7 – Makeup Bag Essentials Countdown

The countdown is coming along nicely and this evening we are going to talk about the blusher. Some people think of blusher and they think of this:

Bridget Blusher

I can assure you that after this blog post and along with the application video below, you should have no fears with regards to a blusher. It’s as an enhancer and can really perk up your complexion when applied correctly. The first battle will be to decide what tones suit you, whether you want cream or powder and the finish that you like.

Now, we have all had a blusher blunder at some stage in life, a slightly heavy hand and you look like Bosco, on acid. For those of you who don’t know Bosco, please refer to the below.

BoscoPersonally, I prefer a powder blush to a cream blush as I have slight scarring on my skin and it tends to highlight these areas. But I have come across some fantastic cream blushes for brides so I have included one among my powder blushes.

1. Mac Mineralise Blush in Warm Soul

This has become one of my favourite powder blushes over the last few months. There are nice gold pearl flecks going through it and I love it for a daytime or nighttime look, giving you a beachy fresh look when it is worked with minimal makeup.  It works very well against a strong red lip too. Warm Soul brightens and warms up my skin and leaves me feeling less dead as I step out of the house in the morning! This product also compliments the MAC highlighter ”Soft and Gentle”

warm soul

This product is €27.00 and worth every pretty penny.

2.  Mac Fleur Power

This blusher falls in the satin section in the MAC blusher family. It glides onto the skin very naturally but can be built up for a more intense look if it is needed or desired. I have had this blush in my kit as part of my pro palette for a very long time as I find it is a nice universal pinky colour that will compliment most skin tones. It is a good blush to have if you don’t have time to put on makeup and just need a dash of colour or if you want a really natural look and just want to pop your makeup.

Fleur Power

Fleur Power is available at €23.00.

3. Mac Dollymix

MAC Dollymix is for those that are a little braver and really enjoy some colour on their cheeks. It’s a great nighttime blusher and works really well on camera too. This blusher falls into the sheertone section in the MAC blush family.  You only need one sweep of this product to see it at work, it will instantly brighten you face, so please use with a light hand. This is probably best suited to the medium to dark skin tones.

You can also purchase Dollymix for €23.00 or you can build yourself a pro palette and buy the refills for €19.00 each.

4. Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Coral Calypso

Another double up product, this blusher is of a cream texture and it can also be used on your lips. Cream blush is lovely and very effective when applied properly. It looks very well on a bridesmaid or bride. This colour is very natural and suit most Irish skintones.

Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Calypso Coral

This product is €26.00

When applying your blush I recommend a blush similar to this one as it’s the right size for hitting the apples of your cheeks.

Take a dab of your blush, do a really cheesy fake smile in the mirror, this will give you your apples of your cheeks, then work the brush in a backwards Nike tick! You may thank me later 😉 Please see the video below so you don’t look like prostitutes and go around saying ”The Girl Pout Town” told me to do it like this!

P.s I look like I am passing wind while getting the apples of my cheek… Enjoy 😉

Day 6 – Makeup Bag Essentials Countdown

Hello babies, happy Sunday! It’s the evening of the concealer. This is another powerful weapon to have in your makeup bag, the concealer, when it is done right, will send you on your merry way to makeup perfection. It will also be a trusty friend over the festive season as you party non-stop. The right concealer can even take the edge off a bout of jaundice 🙂

Please blend your concealer, I will not be held liable for the below! You should not be able to see where you concealer stops and your foundation begins.

Concealer fail

It can hide those dark circles, assist you in the Kim Kardashian contouring look, cover scars or pigmentation and help to give you an all round beautiful complexion.

In my kit, I have a number of concealers that I use depending on the skin type, problem area or foundation I am using.

1. Mac Pro Longwear Concealer in NC25

Mac Pro Longwear comes in a pump format that dispenses a small amount so you won’t overuse or waste the product. Whilst it gives quite a good coverage, it is lightweight and has a silky like feeling when going onto your skin. It is long lasting and I find it can cover and last on any areas that I expect it to work on. This product works nicely over my Fixed or prolong wear foundation.

I use this product under my eyes, in and around my nostrils, on my scars and even on my eyelids so it acts as an extra grip for my eyeshadow.

I like the way this blends in easily, instantly erasing those little imperfections we are all so aware of. It’s €21.50 in BT’s.

Prolong wear concealer

2. Make Up Forever Lift Concealer in No 3

This beauty is a bit of a hero product as it can double up too. The liquid concealer itself work brilliantly under your eye area. It contains vitamins which are nourishing and concealing at the same time. The product will also cover blemishes or scars. You can reduce the look of wrinkles around the mouth and eye are if you put product directly on the wrinkle and blend into your foundation.

The other selling point of this product is that it can also be used as a highlighter on the bridge of your nose or your cheekbones.

The Lift Concealer has featured in my kit for about 4 years and we are still going strong 🙂 You can get this product online here. It is €22.50 or you can drop into the Make Up Forever shop on Clarendon Street.

lift concealer

3. Make Up Forever 5 Camouflage Concealer Palette No 1 or 2

Another worthy contender in the concealer stakes. This product is of a cream base and comes in a palette.

I find this product works really well on problem skin for scars or in the nostrils, but I would never use in and around the eyes as it can cake and will just make the area look worse.

I find the green is excellent for erasing out red, inflammed or sunburnt skin while the orange shade will wipe out purple tones, like bruises. It’s always a good one to have for brides who might have last-minute flare ups.

This product comes in at €32 but it lasts a long time as you are getting five concealers.

Finally, I am going to sneak one other product in that is actually a foundation but works really well as a concealer too as it’s long wearing and cover just about anything. It’s Mac Full Coverage Foundation in NC30. I love it 🙂 It’s €31.50 in BT’s (again!).

Tip on applying concealer:

Concealer tip

Conceal your way to being unreal 😉

Day 5 – Makeup Bag Essentials Countdown

Happy Saturday! Today, it’s the compact powder. As you may know, I am a fan of powder and I am rather partial to a good compact powder. I love how they set your foundation and can change your skin to looking matte and oil free in seconds.

Again, I have a number of powders in my kit. I am a bit of powder hooker… And proud. Sometimes my choice of powder depends on my mood and what foundation I use.

1. Mac Studio Tech in NC35

I like this powder with most foundations but I really love it with my Studio Sculpt foundation and also my Studio fix one. It gives you great coverage and projects a smooth canvas. It helps to hold your makeup in place, proving to be very durable throughout the day and into the night. I’d be known for throwing out a routine or two and this withstands the test of a packed dancefloor!

Studio Tech

By now you know where to get MAC (I hope!) and you can get this product for €36.50.

2. Mac Mineralise Skinfinish in Medium

A great daytime powder which also works very well into the nighttime. It gives a light coverage making it the ideal product if you like a lighter finish. While it gives light coverage it also battles oil well. Hoorah! Your skin can breathe, you can look natural but you have the assurance you won’t be glowing with excess oil come the end of the day.

The Skinfinish Natural is €30.00.

3. Mac Studio Careblend – Medium

This product nearly feels like cream going on. It feels soft and it’s like it’s doing good for your skin on impact. It nourishes and gives off a healthy natural complexion. I have started wearing this to work lately, I tend to touch my face a lot and it manages to fend off my murky mitts whilst battling oil.

Studio Careblend

You can get this powder at €26.00.

TIP –  I put my compact powder on with my brush like on of these. Most compacts come with a sponge, I find that a brush gives you a nicer complexion.

You cannot go wrong with any of these powders! Whichever one you choose, you shall enjoy. As always, MAC have an extensive range to suit all skin types and tones.

Kind Regards,

The Powder Hooker.
